The VLCC “New Diamond” IMO: 9191424, departed from Mina Al Ahmadi, Kuweit fully laden on a draft of 20,4m towards Paradip, India.
Early morning of 03rd Sep. Indian Coast Guard has picked up a distress signal indicating the ship has a fire onboard. Sri Lanka navy reported that fire ignited in the engine room and has spread further. Sri Lanka and Indian navy are reported to assist in fighting the fire.
Skytek React system tracks that at 0530 UTC today, the product tanker “Helen M” IMO: 9308223 slows down and meets the now drifting VLCC “New Diamond” to rescue the crew onboard.
“New Diamond” is a 2000 built VLCC, 333m long by 60m width, 299986 DWT, Panama flag, classed with Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, and insured with West of England. The ship is owned and managed by New Shipping Ltd.
